Katherine Reutter on US Speedskating

Katherine Reutter is rolling with two victories and four overall medals. This would be the most successful World Cup season for her career, and US Speedskating very grateful for that this holiday season. When she entered the Vancouver Olympics, she is one of the top skaters in the world. Reutter is ranked second in the 1000m, third in the 1500m and eighth in the 500m. She would face her top rival, Wang Meng from China, the two-time world overall champion. Wang is ranked 1 in both the 500m and 1000m events.

“The Chinese team has always been really strong, and they’ve been coming on stronger and stronger the past four years,” said Reutter, who hails from Champaign, Ill. “In 2006, the [South] Koreans really dominated, but in the last two years it’s been a lot of the Chinese teams. That’s mainly what I’ve been expecting.

“But I think again, since we have this big training block going into the Games, I think a lot of people will come in as new skaters because we’ve learned so much in the short World Cup season that we had,” she added. “I think everyone will come back to the Games doing everything a little bit better.”

Good luck to Katherine Reutter. Wish you the best.
