Rory Markas Died at Age 54

Rory Markas, a sportscaster died yesterday at age 54. Apparently, he died because of a heart attack. Sportsfan might have missed him, because for the last nine seasons he was the announcer for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Great to hear his voice, as he has passion and flair to his broadcasts. He was found dead in his home in Palmdale, California.

Sadly, he had no wife or kids. He worked in Anaheim but lived far away in Palmdale, daily commute for four to five hours.

He was with the Angels from 1994 to 1997. Other than the Angels, he also broadcasts for the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Clippers, University of Southern California, and many more. Beside television broadcasts, he also had done radio broadcasts for six years while in the PCL.

He was honored with two Associated Press Sportscasting awards.Also,the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Association awarded him with the Radio Play-by-PLay Award in 2008.

The Angels spokesman, Tim Mead said, “Markas had surgery for a blood clot on his brain in late 2008.”

In late 2008 he had a brain aneurysm, fortunately he avoided death and recovered. The event made him appreciated life more. Rory will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Rory Markas. You will be always be the voice of Angels.
