Washington Sportscaster, George Michael dies at 70. He was known for TV Sports Machine show, ending carrer from sports desk since 1980 to 2007. The longtime sportscaster died Thursday morning.
“George was a pioneer in sports broadcasting,” WRC-TV (Channel 4) said in a statement early Thursday announcing Mr. Michael’s death from leukemia at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Northwest Washington. “He was a gifted interviewer, a master storyteller and one of the hardest-working journalists out there.”
He died of cancer, specifically chronic lymphocytic leukemia according to reports. George Michael was the first to made sports highlight shows become famous like now and become the bread and butter of ESPN. Thanks to wide range of knowledge, he also gave early attention to other sports like bull riding and NASCAR before they were famous on TV.
